Film techniques used to tell a story differ from those used in literature. These techniques influence our undestanding of characters, mood, plot, and theme. In this course students will apply concepts of theme, characterization, motifs, mood, and plot to film as well as literature. Students will identify elements used in film to create special effects, such as angles, shots, sound, lighting, and transitions and examine how they influence the audience's perception and understanding of both the film and the original literary piece. Students will not only become critical viewers, but they will also become creative writers and pruduce their own short film.  Films such as "Edward Scissorhands" (Tim Burton), "Crooklyn" (Spike Lee),  and "Psycho" (Alfred Hitchcok) in addition to several others are analyzed and discussed from a critical perspective and used as a basis for students' original short films.

电影讲述一个故事的技巧不同于文学。这些技巧影响我们队人物角色、意境、情节和主题的理解。在本课程中，学生将适应对电影中的题材、人物塑造、主题、意境和情节与对于文学是一样的观念。学生将识别出用于给电影创造特殊效果的元素，比如：角度、镜头、声音、灯光和转换，并且找出这些元素是如何影响观众对电影和原创文学作品的感知和理解。学生将不仅能成为评论性的观众，他们也能成为创造性的作家，并且做出他们自己的短片。电影，如：剪刀手爱德华（蒂姆·伯顿），种族情深（斯派克·李）和惊魂记（阿尔弗雷德·希区柯克）等其他几部，都从一个评论者的角度进行分析和讨论，并且作为学生的原创短片的基础。
